Remixer Notes

Hi there!

I have been adoring Peters work for two decades and i´m very happy to participate - since Peter was the reason for me to start my career as a musician/composer.

"STM" was never my favourite song, it sounded a bit too happy for me. so i tried to make the whole thing a bit more "beasty". did i succeed?

Greetings from Vienna/Austria!

Hannes

Technical Information

Power Mac G5, Access Virus TI, Cubase SX3, Ableton Live5, mastered on Pro Tools 6.4, and finally 10 Hours this nite ;o))

Hey Hannes.

I don't really like the "techno/electro" style remixes, but I must admit this one is really well done! and what a sound!

Greetings from Paris :-]

schoen! :-)

hi hannes,

i like the strange keyboard solo coming on the end of the track.the rest is great too for sure! thx for remixing one of my favourites!!! j

hi hannes,

i really like the long technoid beginning, but i'm missing the "boom" after the first word (shock).

maybe some analog drums would also fit ;)

i dont like this "alan parson's" synth coming through sometimes.

the movement of the bass is very nice - when it goes down. maybe a little more of that kind.

all in all, a little dirtier and i would believe peter gebriel made it himself.

greets,

thomas

I think you succeded in bringing a darker tone to the song. There are some really huge, wide samples in here also. Great use of space and silence to create contrast. Very good work! :-)

I really dig this one.

Well done, al level up:-) :-)

This is not the kind of stuff I usually like to listen to, but it's certainly got something. Very tasty! :-)

hi hannes!

congratulations, great work!

dont like all of the sounds, but most of them.

i believe, the dirt is very well done.

greets su, :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

I'm new to this site, someone told me about it so I thought I would check it out and listen to a few!

I have to admit the stuff on here is pretty impressive! This track I like also!

:-) :-)

Hi Hannes:

I really dig your remix. I think it is creatively done, it preserves the essentials parts of the tune and makes it fun and danceable. Love the tablas.

Greetings from Chicago.

Sam:-) :-) :-)

smashing! full house!

Hi.

Some nice ideas here - I like the 'Steve Reich' pitched perc' patterns - and the suprise tabla part. Nice textures. Good groove in the drums - and nice fill ideas.

Not that keen on the progression under the chorus though, but solid enough. Also, I'm not really feeling the vocals over the last section - feels mis-matched with the vibe of the music there, in my opinion.

Production/engineering could be more homogenous, but overall, a good mix - you've an ear for texture/groove in the instrumental department.

V:-)

loud with the lights off!!!!!

Nice mix. Complex, robust, good vibe. That monkey is. yeah: SHOCKed!

Stars from Alaska.

Good stuff! not so much my style, but classy for what it is. Abrupt end, though, eh?:-)

Hi Hannes,

echt coooowl.

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Sehr geehrter Herr Oberstudiorat,

ich freue mich wohlwollend zur Kenntnis nehmen zu können da Ihre Bestrebungen Musik zu machen kein Ende finden.

Sie sollten so weiter machen, denn das ist gut!

well done, Mr. Pantalone :-] & :-x

I too have been listening to P.G. since early Genesis. Passion is one of my favorite works.

I like the end of your version.

Great work!

sehr gut !!:-) :-) :-)

nice remix :-x

i liked this one.:-)

It wasn't my favorite of his songs either. I wish we could have done one from his last album which was so well recorded and preferably not "The Barry Williams Show" which reminds me of "Shock The Monkey" and "Big Time".

As for your mix, it is good. I keep wondering if his voice really goes with all these electronic sounds and beats. I feel like I can't give an honest opinion because I am influenced by the original mix and what I expect of Peter Gabriel. I really enjoy where he says "wheels keep turning" and and you break it down to just the drums. From that point to the end is the best part of your mix for me. I give you a bump up.

great job.greetings from jägermeistertown:-) :-) :-) :-)

Out of the many "Techno"ed-up mixes, this is probably my favorite. Nice mix, nice balance, and great tweaking.

hallo hannes

i like the sound of your mix a lot , good job !

"foat wie sau" as we say :-)

absolut SUPER, mehr davon!

Yea, some more analog sounds and some more high tech glitch could've expanded the tech style of this mix somewhat. Go deeper!

fette beatz und gutes timeing - danke für die Musik LG Rich

".so i tried to make the whole thing a bit more "beasty". did i succeed?"

YES!!:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Nice intro, but the groove after seems not to fit until you've forgot the intro. Nice job anyway. :-)

The drums work great, and those "shock" here and there are a good idea. And yes, it sounds beasty!!!!:-) :-) :-) :-)

Great lyric to beat timing, better than whats out there. I felt that the break times between lyric sets could be a slightly longer. Its sounded a little cramped. Overall, Nice job.:-)

captures the essence and great riffs of the original, and brings it into the 21st century nicely.:-)

I'm in the same boat as all the "sick of so many techno/dance remixes" and also agreeing with them that this isn't your typical techno. While you have tons of layers of sound, it keeps a lightness that many dance mixes don't have. You layered on texture and not thickness. I LOVED the little whispered "shock!" and silence. That *is* indeed great use of silence and creates a real anticipation of what's coming next. The tabla was a fun surprise and I loved it where you had it. Whatever that buzzing, electonic sound is throughout the song, I like the way it flits from right to left channel.

this one sounds like Rob Zombie helped. good quality mixing and uptempo beats!
