Remixer Notes
This remix is about passion and jealousy. Few pieces of music, in my opinion, speak more profoundly of these things than Bizet's classic "Carmen". Hence the use of the imfamous "Habanera" theme from Carmen as a backdrop in this song, and the gypsy/latin rhythm. (In the opera, Don José, who is the male lead, got insanely jealous when the girl he loved, the beautiful gypsy Carmen, left him for another man. He eventually stabs Carmen in the heart out of rage and passion.) While the "monkey" in the song may not be driven to such an extreme, PG's wonderful vocal tracks and emotional lyrics do convey a strong message.
So sit back, picture yourself in a bar at a cheap motel in Paris with a bottle of wine, drowning in your sorrows because your lover has just left you for somebody else. And across the street at the Opera House, a "Carmen" production is being staged.
I had a lot of fun doing this remix, it's much more challenging than the other remixes I've done so far because it's the most organic and live one, no loops were used. Everything was played on live instruments or the synth, or sung by my friend Iris.

funny! is the violin real? sounds cool though.
OK so you've done one heckuva surreal mix. OK so you're one talented ol feller. OK so ol Doghouse is knocked out by it. OK so why'd ya hafta break ol Doghouse's glass a champagne there at the end? I was askin for a refill! Not to have it jerked outta my dang hand by that gal in the red dress and flung halfway cross the room! What kinda joint you runnin here Jose?!
LOL . Doghouse, you're killin' me! hahaha . Thanks.
Great work! Great playing, nice backstory, and a great mix.
Well done.
What a nice idea!Good work!
This made me smile. It's very well done and shows alot of originality.
Words fail me. Just terrific. Thanks.
Surprise!! real music ! like it.
Well done. Very original.
I posted on another genre mix that these should all be collected together in one place as they show the musical skill of a lot of the people who have characterised the Monkey.
Yor right, LS. And that dang place is the winnin top ten! Go on with yer bad self, musicjunkie! And git me another glass a champagne, will ya?
Trop drole ! superbe , et tres bonne rea .
a la bonne votre !
brilliant - this is the best, most innovative mix yet!!!
Unbelievable!! Great work!!
That's a funny idea cause i had the idea to do (but when!) something with Tosca by Puccini, the opera in which her (Tosca's) jealousy is in fact one of her main character-flaws which lead directly to her and her lovers death.
Really very well executed mix im(very)ho. 4stars.
Those darn opera composers - so morbid!!!
.and this too.superb.!!!!!
Charming. My favourite moment: the "shock t.m. to life" choir just before the female singer takes over.
OK so you got an honorable mention from ol Pete cause yor dang mix was so surrealy good. OK so ol Doghouse got up there too. OK so this here contest is finally over. OK so NOW can I get a dang refill on my dang champagne!!?? What kinda joint you runnin here Don Jose'?
Doghouse, you're really pushin' it!! We started off with a bottle of wine at the bar you quickly moved on to champagne! (Let me see you walk a straight line please?) Ok ok, . I guess you deserve a champagne toast now, Mr. Runner-up!! Well done Doghouse!
It was great! Kind of a "Mash Up" remix of Monkey. I felt like doing the Tango.
Congratulations also Don José.
Keep up the good work
Great !
this is a kickin mix. taking it to a new place, a new content and time. mixed with modern day.
wonderful!
It never ceases to amaze what styles and pieces of music sit well next to each other.
Really innovative idea.
you got balls man :) pushed the horizon so far
Very nice job. PG's voices are are a bit too numb & not present as much as they should be.
Very creative ;)
Incroyable!!!
I love the violin.
Thanks for all your comments. I felt lucky and honoured to be mentioned by PG. I couldn't have done this mix without my friends' help - Steve McNie on his Steinberger bass, Iris Rodrigues on vocals at the end.
Love this place!
huummm.
What is it,some joke?
Nope, at least not from my perspective, otherwise I wouldn't have spent over 30 hrs arranging, recording, editing and mixing it.
That's just beautiful, man!
I am speachless! This is a masterpiece! I just HAVE to HAVE it! 5* - nothing less!
Technically a masterpiece. Unfortunately, not a fan of the style of music. Just an uncultured American, I guess. I know what kind of work that was, and it was nothing short of a masterpiece.
Outstanding. One of my business partners is yelling "I NEED THAT!! CAN I GET AN MP3?" Excellent job.
Amazing. I'd buy it. Get it up on iTunes already!
Now I can never listen to that album without wine, cheese and sorrow. and a Fedora. and . Thank you for new perspectives!! <8}
A scream!. way to go.
Different. I like it.
it just grat good buenisima
Saludos
Nice contintal sounds. Another original remix, not trying to out-Gabriel Gabriel but rather being new and fresh.
I do think it needs more interesting percussion though, but not in an overstated way - less is definitely more, but they need to be a little bit more complicated.
Nice use of sampled instruments. The violin could do with certain individual notes having the attack rate shortened so the notes flow into each other more fluidly, but the actual melody you created is brilliant.
Now for some reason I have an irrepressible desire to go and eat frogs legs.
Please, god, where can I get a copy of this remix? It's just wonderful.
When I finished laughing I made up my mind : Brilliant idea - perfecly played.
Vraiment trés original,c'est une réussite !!!
Vraiment tres original,c'est une reussite !!!
Excellent, like the house band at the restaurant at the end of the world in the Doug Adams book.
HAMMER!
Wow, you got me wet eyes on listening on that tune. Amazing and very touching indeed. What a daring, gorgeous remix.
Wow. the Gomez and Morticia of the Addams family would have been T A N G O-ing across the slick marble floors with this!! LOL
It's divine. I am smiling and dancing at the first few moments. GREAT JOB!!
I can't believe i'm hearing this!!!!
