The drum track is very basic. but I used a lot of modulation on the synths and guitars to make the song have a rock edge.

Great first effort! 
I like the stripped-down treatment you've given the tune - at first I didn't hear too many departures from the original, but as the piece develops there are some nice surprises. (The guitar-driven chorus at 0:53, for example.) The balance could use some tweaking (to my ears, at least) - the vocals tend to overpower the guitars at times. Very good overall!
