Portico Quartet 'Steepless' Remix Competition

Portico Quartet are offering you the chance to remix 'Steepless' from their forthcoming new album 'Portico Quartet' (released 30th January 2012).

Uniquely for Portico Quartet, the track Steepless features a vocal collaboration with the East London based Swedish singer, Cornelia. The band met Cornelia through their friend Jamie Woon, and were drawn to her unique voice and songs. Steepless, which started as a more conventional song, was created live in the studio by the band, and Cornelia and the band together created a powerful new dialogue that provides one of the album's many stand out moments.

The winner will receive a SoundCloud Pro account (courtesy of Soundcloud) plus all 3 12" Portico Quartet vinyl LP releases, a limited edition EP and a pair of tickets to one of their upcoming gigs (excluding festivals). Two runners up will receive a Souncloud Lite Account and a copy of the new album.

To enter, download the stems from below, remix the track and then post it to the dropbox. The competition closes at 12pm (GMT) on the 6th February 2012. Entrants must first read and accept the Terms & Conditions before entering. Good Luck.

'Wey Fikir' Takes a new form...

hypermiler's hasn't provided us with a remix for a few years but he has come back strong with his rendition 'Wey Fikir' by Dub Colossus.

His remix is leaning more towards Dubstep, with it's signature beat, gritty synth bass line, and short vocal stabs with heavy effects. This is a unique take on 'Wey Fikir', we commend you sir.

Dub Colossus remixers are stepping up...

There has been a great response to the new remix pack. Fresh remixes from Sythetic1, Dub Caravan, and sammlung have all shot up to the top of the charts in our Top Twenty list.

We particularly like HaveMercy's rendition of the track. Having been a member of the remixed site for a number of years, HaveMarcy's remix has found a balance that works really well. Using spacey pads along side the drifting keys from Samuel Yirga and Ttsedenia's floaty vocals has resulted in a wonderful rendition of 'Wey Fikir'. Listen to the track here...

The new track available is taken from the new album 'Addis Through The Looking Glass' by the mighty Dub Colossus. Back with their inventive fusion of jazz-dub, reggae, Seventies Ethiojazz and traditional tunes the Ethio/UK musical collective have created a gorgeous grooving love song, 'Wey Fakir', featuring the vocals of Tsedenia Gebremarkos and extraordinary young pianist Samuel Yirga.

Back Up and Running

Hands up, we're guilty as charged.

We've neglected Real World Remixed lately, but we're now up and running, committed to breathing life back into the site.

We've got a selection of intriguing new sample packs coming soon with a selection of curious and imaginative sounds from various corners of the world for you to work with and new competitions are on the horizon.
